L2L Days 25-28: Belorado to Burgos to Carrión de los Condes

¡Hola! Alex checking back in with another guest editorial. Seems like we’ve fallen behind a bit in the blogging so I’ll catch it up. On Monday, Oct. 7 we battled hills, torrential rains, and heavy headwinds for 40 miles to get to Burgos, where we took 2 rest days to wait out a storm which would have given 30 mph sustained headwinds (45mph gusts). When arriving to Burgos, we were soaking wet, cold and had to wait for 45 minutes in the public library before checking into our hotel.

Cold, wet, and grumpy in the Burgos library

While 2 rest days feels like a lot, Burgos is a wonderful city with excellent food. The urban fabric is well developed, with walkable streets and beautiful architecture. We ate tapas and toured the cathedral. We also did laundry and shipped about 8 kgs of stuff we don’t need back home. This means we will both be lighter and more aerodynamic for the remainder of the tour. Nice!

Ox meatball tapas. Yum!

Today (Thursday, October 10), we rode 60 miles from Burgos to Carrión de Los Condes. The ride was smooth and the weather was great. We chatted with other cyclists who were following the Camino on E-Bikes (with 800 wh batteries!). They started in Munich, where they also purchased their bikes and they will end in Lisbon as well.

Feeling happy and aerodynamic

Where am I again?

We are considering tacking on some additional miles to visit Santiago de Compostela before heading south into Portugal. That means tomorrow will likely be a long ride, so stay tuned!

Buen Camino,

Alex
