Not much to mention here today. We found a store, stocked up on food for tomorrow. We also did laundry in one of those outdoor laundromats.
I guess the big note for the day was that as I was cleaning our chains and cassettes, I found that I had a broken spoke. Yesterday, I'd thought that I heard the 'twang' of something hitting it, but I failed to check it out. Anyhow, I found a bike shop that happened to be open late. We walked in and the bike mechanic was able to hook me up with a new spoke. He spent a good deal of time trueing my wheel and seemed to be quite confident of what he was doing, so it made us feel good about the fix. - I feel very lucky.... so now I've got 63 black spokes and one silver.
Tomorrow, we've modified the plan. We will ride 70 miles and 6300 ft elevation. I'm pretty sure it will be our most difficult ride of the tour. We are rested and ready for it!
Have a great day, all!

Sounds like you are getting a tour of the local bike shops. They are a critical resource for us bike travelers. I hope you have nice weather for your big riding day!
ReplyDeleteSteve, our tour of bike shops… turns out that France has some pretty good bike shops! Hahahh
DeleteSteve, can you believe it?!! 4 trips to the bike shop in 20 days. Jake and I had zero when we did northern tier! I’m just glad that I inspected my spokes when servicing drive train. It could have turned into a ruined wheel. I do carry a temporary nylon spoke.
